Wakacje w Emiratach (II): The Dubai Mall, Burdż Chalifa, Palm Jumeirah i Burdż al-Arab

English version:
During any stay in the United Arab Emirates, you must visit Dubai. Two days is the perfect amount of time to see the main attractions and soak up the atmosphere of this modern, exotic city. We decided to travel there by taxi, which is a relatively cheap form of transport, and it took just over an hour from our base in Fujairah. Once there, we took the Metro to visit the famous Dubai Mall – the largest shopping centre in the world (with an area of 112.4 hectares!) and one which boasts a huge aquarium with a mind-blowing capacity of 10 million litres of water. But I didn't want to shop there! :)

Our goal was to see the Burj Khalifa – the tallest building in the world at an incredible 829 metres. It is also one of the most iconic and instantly recognisable buildings in the UAE. Standing majestically against a backdrop of crystal-clear waters and shimmering skyscrapers, it made a deep impression on me and prompted me into moments of pure reflection. It's incredible to think that in such a short space of time people can create so much variety while at the same time piecing together a coherent and aesthetically-pleasing collection of buildings and stunning landmarks which are so pleasing on the eye. The abstract panorama of Dubai reminded me very much of a motherboard! The city centre is incredibly clean, so much so that the impeccable nature of the neatness can be confusing. I got the distinct impression that not even a single blade of grass had the right to meander over the border away from its home within a perfectly-mown and manicured lawn, and that the term "wild nature" was entirely redundant here.

Another place my friends and I really wanted to see was the artificial Palm Islands, which can easily be seen from space even. We visited Palm Jumeirah, which was reached via terrestrial railways. Referred to as the "eighth wonder of the world", the man-made attraction offers a plethora of entertainment, exclusive hotels, private beaches, designer shops, and restaurants. Because of the high prices, only a small percentage of tourists can afford to indulge themselves and take advantage of the myriad benefits on offer within this spectacular enclave. We decided to buy our lunch from a food truck which offered relatively inexpensive dishes, including healthy, organic meals. Unfortunately, the portions turned out to be small, but they were really delicious.

Just before sunset, we spent some time close to the luxury Burj Al Arab hotel. Resembling a ship's sails, the hotel is home to hundreds of furnished apartments and exciting attractions. But anyone who doesn't wish to take advantage of the stunning – but horrendously expensive – forms of recreation on offer, can happily spend time lounging on the sandy beach instead. A very pleasant alternative! :)

  1. I'm so glad you had a wonderful visit in the UAE. Your photos are terrific. I love both of your dresses...the one with a cut-away hem on your left leg is quite provocative, maybe at times showing a glimpse of sexy panty. Your pictures sure do suggest Dubai to be a beautiful city. Thanks for sharing. You are such a delightful girl. :)

  4. What a great entry again, Ariadna, and very fitting for an ever-evolving blog which is fresh and has a little bit of everything to keep readers coming back for more. I was tempted to cut and paste what I wrote about Fujairah because the feelings this post have stirred in me are identical. I was left feeling as though I was in Dubai with you – maybe next time, Ariadna?! :o) – as you gave me a fascinating glimpse into the life of a city which is a lavish playground of the rich and famous. The story is again told well in an honest and engaging way (I loved the analogy of the motherboard to describe Dubai) and, I think, offers a big clue into the depth of your character. It's refereshingly clear that in a time when so many people seemingly wander around with their eyes closed, you have an inquisitive mind and an observant nature. I like that, I like that a lot :o) The accompanying pictures are also excellent. I particularly love the picture of you taking a picture reflected in the window of (presumably) the Metro, the Burj Khalifa rising majestically beyond the palm trees, and the myriad cityscapes of a burgeoning city taken from various different perspectives. As for you, Ariadna, it's obvious that the sunny Emirates suited you very, very well. You look very relaxed and very happy – must be all those clean trains and neat lawns! :o) – and the picture of you in partial silhouette with the Burj Al Arab behind you is a dreamy picture. Great stuff! Now, my bags are packed, just let me know when we're going back, Ariadna! :o)

To skromne i ekologiczne, zgodne z Twoją dietą. Pokaż potęgę natury, a nie pseudoluksusy świata zepsutych milionerów.
